DESKTOP PUBLISHING SPECIALIST (2026-1206)

McLean, VA – Full Time

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for all matters related to the formatting and production of translations projects, especially graphics, OCR, file conversions, and word processing, to enable the translators to focus entirely on linguistic work. Tasks may include but are not limited to: 

• Assess time/material requirements for completion of DTP and formatting tasks. 

• Fix formatting and layout in Word, Adobe PDF, PowerPoint, InDesign, Illustrator, and similar formats. 

• Edit graphics and charts. 

• Prepare various file formats and technologies for translation using CAT tools. 

• Optimize the use of technology in all steps of DTP and formatting. 

• Provide technical support on DTP issues required by the customer. 

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Poly.

• Ability to pass an English grammar test.

• Working proficiency in one of the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Kurdish, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian.

• Ability to pass a translation test from the source language into English with a minimum of 2 on the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Scale.

• Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent (4 years or more of on-the-job experience in the specific HLT field.) 

• Experience or training in graphic design. 

• Excellent written and spoken communication skills (English) 

• Proficiency with graphic design software.

• Adept at using the full suite of Microsoft Office tools. 

• Ability work to work in a fast paced environment and be a team player. 

• Organized and motivated self-starter with a problem-solving attitude. 

• Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. 

• Flexible with hours to accommodate project deadlines. 

PREFERRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• Proficiency with Computer-assisted Translation (CAT) tools. 

• Localization, Desktop Publishing (DTP), and technology-related experience. 

• Familiarity with web development syntax and data exchange structures 

• Proficiency with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems. 

• Proficiency with video editing and subtitling.
